  A Business-Friendly Environment

The Chamber lobbies the various levels of government to promote and protect the interests of business. It plays a major role in promoting the development of Johannesburg as the economic hub of the African continent. Members support this endeavour through their membership fees, and they participate and provide input for the lobby through various interest-group commissions. The Chamber has an office in Midrand to assist members with Certificates of Origin, and sub-committees in Midrand and Sandton to represent the interests of members in these areas.

 Business - to - Business Marketing

Direct your company message to specific sections of the Chamber membership - the Chamber database is available on mailing labels or electronic disk. Maximise the impact of your advertisement on the Chamber website or the monthly electronic newsletter, Going Concerns, by positioning it in specific areas. The website is visited by local and international companies looking for contacts/products/services in South Africa.

  • Going Concerns - a monthly electronic newsletter that keeps members in touch with the latest on the business scene as well as Chamber activities and events
  • Business Contacts Directory - list companies that are members of selected chambers in the nine provinces - an invaluable marketing tool.
  • Business Opportunities Bulletin (BOB) - monthly bulletin with detailed import and export enquiries, agency/ distributorship, and technology / joint venture opportunities, and matters of general international business interest. Available to members on an annual subscription.
  • E-BOB - an electronic version of the Business Opportunities Bulletin available on the internet (see www.jcci.co.za) with a search facility.
  • Importer’s and Exporter’s Manuals These two regularly-updated volumes cover the complete import and export process, guiding the trader through the complexities of dealing in international markets. The manuals form the basis of the Chamber’s Import and Export Management certificate courses.
  • Tender Bulletin - weekly bulletin of local, international and municipal tenders available on subscription – print or electronic version.

  • Seminars / Workshops
    Workshops and seminars covering a wide range of subjects help hone your skills and keep you up-to-date on the latest developments in business. The training is affordable and practical, providing information and skills to take back to the workplace.
  • Courses
    The Import and Export Management Courses have saved traders millions of Rand by eliminating inefficient procedures. These five-day full-time courses cover all aspects of the import and export cycles, from purchasing and insurance methods, through to the transport chain.
  • ACCESS! Programme for African Women Exporters
    This course for African women with the potential to export is run on behalf of the Centre for International Business Development Services, the International Trade Centre - Geneva, and the Trade Facilitation Office - Canada. The three-pronged approach incorporates training, mentoring, and a website to help women market their products internationally.

 International Trade & Investment

Global Opportunities
  • Incoming missions Trade missions and visiting business executives from overseas seeking buying or selling opportunities use the Chamber as their point of contact with local businesses. We arrange appointments and also set up presentations on how to do business with various countries.
  • Outgoing missions
    Chamber-led trade missions open doors to new markets for members. The Chamber uses its credibility and international reputation to set up appointments with the senior executives of potential client companies in the countries visited. Participants may qualify for financial support in terms of the Department of Trade & Industry Export Marketing and Investment Assistance Scheme.
  • Buyers-Sellers Meetings – to facilitate business between incoming missions and local business, the Chamber arranges one-on-one meetings between buyers and sellers.
  • International and Local Trade Shows - provide a useful avenue for promoting your products in markets abroad and for keeping abreast of developments in South Africa.
  • International Letters of Introduction - issued to members travelling abroad to establish creditability with overseas business contacts. Chamber membership is accorded international recognition.
INTERNATIONAL TRADE DOCUMENTATION
  • Certificates of Origin and Attestation of other documents are issued according to standards set by the International Chamber of Commerce.
    Export and Import Documentation. We are able to assist with basic documentation from commercial invoices to certificates of origin.
PROVIDING TRADE INFORMATION
  • Liaison with other bodies in international trade By maintaining close contact with the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, the Departments of Trade & Industry and Foreign Affairs, and private sector organisations involved in international trade, the Chamber ensures that up-to-date information is available to members.
  • SA Customs and Excise Matters Details of Harmonised System tariff classifications, import / export control regulations, customs duties, excise duties, rebates, drawbacks, refunds of duties are available.
  • Statistical Information on South Africa SA foreign trade statistics are available and members can be assisted with statistics from the Central Statistical Services and other sources.
